Technology Outdoors

Today was all about finding your way. We explored three different methods--Native American orienteering, using a compass, and GPS technology.

First we discussed the different methods American Indians would have used to find their way such as the sun, stars, and leaving signs on the trail.

We also learned how to find North by looking at where the moss grows on a tree.

We made a detour to the river, to see what we could find.

After lunch we learned how to use a GPS system, and set out into the prairie, using the GPS to guide us to various points.

The kids entered coordinates to find a special geocache... their next task was to find it!

hmm...

 over here?

 what about down there?

 Hooray! They found it!

Everyone got to sign in

and have a treat!
