Green and Growing

Today we had the "Green and Growing" kids out to explore the gifts plants give us and to begin the work on our Native American Three Sisters Garden. It was a smaller group, but we had a lot of fun and we were able to do quite a bit with the time that we had.

In the morning we took a walk down by the river and somehow ended up testing the waters a bit...

The kids may have gotten a little muddy, but that's what the Nature Center is for, right?

`

After lunch we began to work on the Three Sisters Garden, which involves three plants--as the name suggests--corn, beans, and squash.

We planted two corn mounds with about five seeds in each.

The kids learned that you have to pour the water very slowly so that it will sink into the soil.

Other camps will continue planting in the coming weeks, so check back to see the progress!

As we were taking a hike, we found quite a few galls back in the prairie, one of which we cut open to see what we could find.

We even found a special treat along the trail...
