First we visited our feathered friends in the chicken coop.
We learned a method some farmers use to collect eggs.
Who's that on the hill?
Laura is in charge of the farm--what they plant, when they plant, how they plant, etc. She's been running Abbey Creek Farm since 1988.
Laura taught us about different jobs involved in running an organic co-op.
She explained that instead of using chemical pesticides, she sprays a natural bacteria on her crops to keeps the bugs off called bacillus thuringienis-- or B. T. for short.
We took a look at the farm's compost pile where organic material is placed and then reused as fertilizer in the fields.
We even got to play with the farm dog Lucky! (He loved the attention)
After lunch we came back to the Nature Center and learning about GPS technology.
We programmed in a point to our systems then set out to find the hidden geocache.
After we discovered the treasure we decided it was time to cool off a bit and went exploring in the creek.
We couldn't wait to get in!
We wasted no time in finding some scaly friends to play with.
What an exciting day!
